PhD position in knowledge graphs for machine learning

The work will be performed within the research groups DTAI and EAVISE, at the Department of Computer Science at KU Leuven. The Declarative Languages and Artificial Intelligence (DTAI) section within the Computer Science Department conducts research on fundamental and applied research in the fields of Declarative Languages, Machine Learning and Knowledge Representation. The Embedded and Artificially intelligent VISion Engineering (EAVISE) is a multidisciplinary group focuses on applications of advanced computer vision and artificial intelligence, bridging the valley of death between academics and industry.
The PhD candidate will conduct research on supporting Machine Learning tasks with semantic web technologies and knowledge graphs. Performing Machine Learning algorithms nowadays requires a big amount of data but automatically discovering and retrieving such data is not straightforward. The PhD student will contact research on employing semantic web technologies to support Machine Learning tasks. This PhD candidate should have a strong profile on Semantic Web technologies and Knowledge Graphs with a good understanding of Machine Learning aspects.

Your tasks will be:

- research in the areas of Knowledge Graphs and Machine Learning, in particular with respect to the data integration/sharing/exchange
- conceptual design, modeling & construction of knowledge graphs
- dissemination of project results through publications and international conferences
- work in a multidisciplinary and international team
- university degree (MSc or equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, AI or comparable fields
- background in both theoretical and applied aspects of computer science
- expertise/experience in the following is considered a plus
     - semantic web technologies, knowledge graphs (KG), data management and/or machine learning (ML)
     - software development with e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript
     - Web and/or database technologies
- highly motivated to conduct research and passionate for discovering new things
- ability to work in a team but also independently
- good oral and written communication skills in English
- flexible working hours and home office arrangements
