Knowledge graphs are generated from distributed data in different formats, e.g., CSV, XML, JSON, etc. However, this process is performed manually so far. The PhD candidate will conduct research on automating the generation of knowledge graphs. This PhD candidate should have a strong profile on Machine Learning aspects with a good understanding of Semantic Web and Knowledge Graphs aspects. The work will be performed within the research groups DTAI and EAVISE, at the Department of Computer Science at KU Leuven. The Declarative Languages and Artificial Intelligence (DTAI) section within the Computer Science Department conducts research on fundamental and applied research in the fields of Declarative Languages, Machine Learning and Knowledge Representation. The Embedded and Artificially intelligent VISion Engineering (EAVISE) is a multidisciplinary group focuses on applications of advanced computer vision and artificial intelligence, bridging the valley of death between academics and industry.
Responsibilities

- research in the areas of Knowledge Graphs and Machine Learning, in particular with respect to the data integration/sharing/exchange 

- conceptual design, modeling & construction of knowledge graphs

- dissemination of project results through publications and international conferences

- work in a multidisciplinary and international team

 
Profile

- university degree (MSc or equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, AI or comparable fields

- background in both theoretical and applied aspects of computer science

- expertise/experience in the following is considered a plus

     - semantic web technologies, knowledge graphs (KG), data management and/or machine learning (ML)

     - software development with e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript 

     - Web and/or database technologies

- highly motivated to conduct research and passionate for discovering new things

- ability to work in a team but also independently

- good oral and written communication skills in English
