About the job Join our Knowledge Architecture group, an interdisciplinary team of experts. Support us in making essential knowledge digital to drive business and innovation. Build and maintain ontologies for semantic data and information integration and AI applications.

  • Collaborate intensively with our colleagues in global BASF R&D and business to build ontologies that can be integrated in solutions following the FAIR principles
  • Evangelize the role of ontologies in knowledge and data solutions; support and empower domain experts to build and maintain ontologies
  • Drive the implementation of a central ontology management framework and its integration with connected systems
  • Integrate semantic web, natural language processing, and knowledge graph techniques, including AI algorithms, for advanced digital knowledge solutions
  • Work in an international and agile project environment
 
Must have qualification

  • Degree (M.Sc./PhD) in life sciences, chemistry, bioinformatics, computer sciences
  • Several years of work experience in the development of ontologies, ideally in combination with complex meta data schemas and data modelling
  • Proficiency with formal logic, semantic web technologies and standards (RDFS, OWL, SPARQL, SHACL, OBO, SKOS), linked data and graph databases (primarily Neo4j)
  • Experience in data integration, linked data applications following FAIR principles
  • Practical experience in programming with Python and Java using XML and JSON-LD
  • Excellent analytical skills with focus on problem solving
  • Ability to perform in globally distributed project teams using agile development
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English
 
Additional qualification good to have

  • Sound understanding of natural sciences, esp. chemistry in industrial R&D
  • Practical experience with WebProtégé
  • Large scale knowledge graph construction in industrial applications
  • Experience in master data management, data integration techniques and tools
