Software Engineer, Search & Knowledge Graph (Engineering - United States - Full time)

Deep Purple is the culmination of all the data and knowledge Olive is gathering as she performs a variety of job functions for many healthcare providers. Deep Purples makes the data and knowledge collected by Olive accessible and manageable to help drive business decisions and allow existing Olive digital workers to become smarter over time.

The Deep Purple Search team is responsible for building the knowledge graph encompassing all of the data in Deep Purple (including external datasets brought in), facilitating graph querying and semantic searching, and applying both ontologies and inference pipelines. Our Search Engineers are constantly trying to find and push the limits of our internal knowledge graph, applying and extending recent research, and extend the capabilities of our Search APIs.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Engineers and Product Managers to design and implement features
  • Ability to meet deadlines and satisfy requirements from other Engineers and Product Management
  • Peer review and code review participation to provide valuable feedback during every step of the development process
  • Quickly produce well-organized, optimized, and documented code
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently across all divisions including with the business, technical teams, and leaders
  • Take technical ownership of tasks and successfully work independently
  • Demonstrate the ability to become a domain expert in projects
  • Mentor and lead junior engineers on multiple tasks or projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of relevant programming experience
  • Extensive experience with search algorithms and building search based technologies, especially applying search to knowledge graphs and other ontology-based graphs
  • Apache Jena, Apache Lucene, and Fuseki experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of either Java, Clojure, Lisp, or similar
  • Experience developing a scalable and reliable knowledge data platform
  • Knowledge of and experience applying ontology systems and building inference pipelines
  • History of creating, leveraging, and extending algorithms for supervised and unsupervised knowledge discovery
  • Experienced in the development of highly maintainable and reliable code using practices such as unit testing, integration testing, proper code documentation, and appropriate logging
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of fundamentals engineering concepts
  • Knowledge of software and application design and architecture
  • Experience writing and reviewing detailed Technical Design Documents (TDDs) is a plus
