Open Position Scientific Developer

Description

The open position is for a scientific developer that will support the implementation and maintenance of high-impact research prototypes (see http://github.com/aksw) targeted to be viable to reach TRL-9. The position will give you the opportunity to delve into very diverse research projects ranging from federated queries, knowledge extraction and natural language processing over to data integration and fusion to benchmarking and question answering. You will work in a team of experts that have demonstrated the ability to develop innovative solutions to problems all around the Semantic Web. Interesting problems and inventive solutions will be your bread and butter. The approaches you devise can be credited as foundation for a PhD thesis. We are an equal opportunity employer.

Requirements
Candidates should be well versed in the collaborative development and maintenance of large-scale projects in languages belonging primarily to the Java family. They must a very good understanding of

  • Algorithms and data structures
  • Development of distributed systems
  • Continuous integration and testing
  • Collaborative development tools (Git, SVN)
  •  Maven

Working knowledge in the following areas are a plus

  • Computer networks
  • Deployment on Linux systems (Ubuntu/Debian)
  • Docker
  • Messaging buses (e.g., RabbitMQ)

Salary
Successful candidates will be offered a salary of 100% TVL-13 contract (between 44K€ and 63.5K€ yearly depending on years of experience in an academic context) with a periodic increase. Upon the successful completion of a test phase, candidates will be offered extensible contracts.
