What you can expect
 
Join our department Digitalization in Research & Development and orchestrate the development of domain-specific ontologies to foster human-machine interaction and provide the basis for the application of higher level artificial intelligence.
  • You will collaborate intensively with the global scientific community in BASF ensuring that domain-specific ontologies can be integrated in a comprehensive overall picture - over time covering BASF R&D as a whole.
  • Therefore, you will establish as well as maintain a network of domain experts (e.g. lab scientists) that support the ontology generation in their respective domains and steer the demand for ontology extension and refinement.
  • Within the knowledge extraction process, you will ensure that the defined ontology structure can be extracted automatically.
  • Furthermore, you will be an integral part of the knowledge representation and enrichment activities.
  • You will participate in the development of new methods and functionality, translate the outcome into regular business operation and ensure broad adoption in the community.
What we expect
  • You have earned a degree (M.Sc./diploma) in one of the following areas: computer or information science, mathematics, engineering, computational linguistics, chemo- or bioinformatics.
  • Ideally, you already possess sound understanding of natural sciences, esp. chemistry in industrial R&D and you are able to capture requirements and translate use cases into ontology/taxonomy design using modeling techniques, tools, and methodologies.
  • Furthermore, you provide several years of work experience in project management building ontologies, taxonomies, data classification, or creating complex metadata schemas.
  • Therefore, you are proficient in working with graph databases (primarily Neo4J), and scripting languages (e.g. Cypher, SPARQL, Python, Java, XML, JSON-LD).
  • You are also familiar with epistemology, formal logic, set theory and lexical semantics and relevant standards (RDF, OWL2, SPARQL, SHACL, OBO, SKOS).
  • On a personal level, you are distinguished by strong communication skills in German and English and you are able to develop innovative solutions as part of a team.
