Full-time researcher/senior researcher in Big Data, Knowledge Graphs, and Machine Learning

 

The Big Data Research Group at the Western Norway Research Institute welcomes applications for researcher positions.

The candidate will join our research group in solving exciting and challenging research problems with real-world applications that require machine learning, deep learning neural nets, natural language processing (AI-driven text classification and sentiment analysis), semantic web technologies (knowledge graphs). We are well recognized for designing and developing cutting-edge intelligent solutions. Our international, European and national projects' activities demonstrate how ICT enabling technologies can be applied to solve societal and business challenges within emergency management, transport and mobility, healthcare, energy and social cybersecurity.

Skills/Competency

  • A solid background in machine/deep learning and natural language processing or text analytics is essential

  • Good programming skills in both scripting and object-oriented programming languages are required (C/C++, Java, C#, python)

  • Experience with MySQL, MongoDB and framework such as OpenGL, jQuery is useful

  • Experience with NLP techniques like POS tagging, sentiment analysis, or summarization is useful, and a good understanding of neural networks, linked data and information retrieval is assumed

  • Motivated, self-driven and with a strong ability to learn independently

  • The ability to build research networks, and to demonstrate fresh thinking, problem solving skills and innovation

  • Experience with international research projects and grant applications is preferable for positions

Researcher is expected to perform high-quality research and to publish the results in international workshops, conferences, and journals. Researcher is also required to interact extensively with international and industrial partners, and therefore the candidate should have excellent collaboration skills.

Qualifications

  • A PhD degree in Computer and Information Science or equivalent is necessary, as well as a good publication record

  • Applicants who do not master a Scandinavian language must provide evidence of good English language skills, written and spoken

  • In extraordinary circumstances, formal documentation of language skills can be relinquished. In such cases, the candidate’s language skills will be assessed in a personal interview

  • The candidate is expected to acquire a working command of Norwegian language in due course
