Spanish Thematic Network of Linked Data

The Spanish thematic network of Linked Data was created in January, 2011 with the aim of facilitating the exchange and transfer of knowledge in the area of Linked Data between Spanish research groups associated to universities, technology centers, public administrations and companies. Besides, we aim at increasing this knowledge transfer with Spanish researchers that are currently working abroad in related areas.

The thematic network, led by Oscar Corcho of the Ontology Engineering Group, was funded during 2011 and 2012 by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, initially, and then by the Secretaría de Estado de Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación, the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad. Despite having no funding after 2013, their activities will be continued with the collaboration of the active members

A number of activities are being undertaken and organised in the context of this network, full list here. Among them, the most relevant are:

  1. Two public scientific meetings. The first meeting was held at UPM premises, in Boadilla del Monte, Madrid, in June 2011, and the second meeting was a scientific workshop associated to the Spanish Conference on Artificial Intelligence (CAEPIA2011), in La Laguna, Tenerife, in November 2011.
  2. Joint meetings with industrial and Government stakeholders, in vertical domains such as Open Government, Publishing, Health, etc.
  3. Informal working and discussion meetings, in the form of voCamps and Linked Data meetups. Special remark for the meetings that leads to the creation of the DBpedia Spanish Chapter (http://es.dbpedia.org/).
  4. Creation of syllabi and training materials in Spanish (including on-line tutorials, slides, etc.).
  5. Promotion of the mobility of researchers throughout the country.

Finally, the Spanish thematic network maintains an acitve directory with job offers related with this area.

Participating in the network is free and open for any individual, research group, association, public administration or private company that is interested in our activities.
